spring : sights

Over the weekend I spent a bit of time wandering through the conservatory in Lincoln Park for a photo session.  The flowers were beautifully blooming in the elevated greenhouse temperatures - quite a welcome escape from our recent weather.  Chicago has been flooded after a few days of non-stop rain leaving many with flooded basements, the absence of hot water or heat, and impassable roads to drive on.  We're lucky we weren't affected other than having to re-route ourselves on the commute to work, but many others weren't as fortunate.  Sending lots of positive thoughts to those that are still struggling to clean up after last week's storms.  We are ready for sunshine.

  1. Sending some sunshine your way Kate!

We had a gorgeous Autumn day today and we spent it on the beach with the rolling waves... We had two rainy days here and rushed out today to embrace the suns rays!

  2. beautiful,
I'm very ready for sunshine too

  3. love these photos! very bright and cheery. so sorry the weather has been so glum and rainy. when it is endless rain like that I start to feel like a caged animal. and then to top it off its not as if the events of the week were very cheery. sending loads of sunshine and spring-time air your way for the coming week. xo

  4. So beautiful! I've wanted to visit Chicago for a while now and this just verifies that I would love it there! There flowers from the park are gorgeous.

  5. Gorgeous photos. I can't wait to visit the arboretum in the upcoming weeks.

  6. Such delicious photographs! I love the colours of these... do you use filter of some sort?

  7. I love these changes in seasons, so much anticipation after long months of cold days, or, in our case, heat waves. I love how nature reflects these changes so divinely. Sending warm dry thoughts your way!

Easter Weekend

Hello! Happy mid-week to you. This is the roll of photos we shot over our Easter weekend, and oh what a wonderful weekend it was. It was so nice to have family here to visit - even if the weather was cooler than we anticipated! We visited the redwoods in Felton, ate vegetarian burritos, went to the epic shoreside in Montara, and the brewing company in Half Moon Bay. Our hearts are full and our home is feeling quite empty now ;)

As a side note, I've found a renewed love with film. This is a post for another time, but it bears mentioning here! There has been much on my mind re: photography, and hopefully this will be the space I can share that.

For the curious, all the above were shot on a Nikon FM10 with Fuji Superia 400 speed film.

The Long And Short Of It

Hi, friends. How was your weekend? After having non-stop rain for nearly a month, we finally received a short break in the El Niño weather to head to the coast. Even though it's not in our backyard, I still feel like twenty miles to the beach is a good compromise. It really is lovely here and it makes me happy to see the girls so at home in the sea.

This week we are gearing up for Easter and some very special visitors -- my Mama and my sister! It will be the first time Mom has seen our new home or visited the Bay Area, so to say we are excited would be an understatement. We cannot wait. I've even kept it as a surprise from the girls, so I'm sure the look on their faces alone when they see Grammie and their Auntie will be the highlight of the whole trip.

What about you? Any special Easter plans or crafting?

We made some hot crossed buns for the first time last year, and I'm hoping I can bake a little something special this year too. We're going to try this recipe a…

(silly photo of me saying, "whaaat?"  by the husband)

Hi friends. I wanted to take a minute to catch up together and fill you in on a few new things! To anyone new to our space, thank you for visiting and I'm glad you're here. You may have noticed the look around the blog has been much simpler and clean. It's something I'm trying to do not only in just the blog, but with my life itself... a bit of a spring-cleaning, if you will. My Facebook feed filled with "friends" I haven't talked to in ages, a twitter name that no one could pronounce or understand, blog columns and categories I couldn't keep up with, even pressure to post when I know I should just be enjoying my time with my family. The list is seeming never-ending for a lot of us out there, and I just wanted to be honest and say that I too have gotten "stuck" one time or another, and here's a few things I did to streamline my way out of it:

• Keep as many things cons…
