the last days of winter

The last days of winter always spark desire for change.  I can start to smell spring in the air and it settles deep into my bones, a rebirth.  Two years ago, that change was cutting off all of my hair - a horrid idea, now that I look back on it... blegh!  Thankfully - to myself and all who know me - I've decided to take a less dramatic route this year and simply darkened my hair to its natural color. I'm really hoping for a pre-natal massage as I forge through my most uncomfortable weeks, but I still have a ways to go before I get there.

I'm certain any pregnant woman would agree that bath time is their most cherished time of the day.  To be weightless, even for a moment, is pure bliss.  I'm lucky if I ever get a bath to myself anymore though, so my littlest companion has been having extra fun with her brand new bubbles from YesTo baby carrots. While I always try to source products with natural ingredients for my children, I've often forgot to do the same for myself - quite important now that I'm creating a life.  I love knowing I can join her amongst the (mile-high!) bubbles and feel comforted in the fact there aren't any icky ingredients that are so often peppered throughout our most used household and beauty items.  And anyone with a toddler knows that anything that produces a mighty foam & giant bubbles is TOPS!  I've been mulling over a post with some of my go-to natural products for baby, mom and the home for quite some time... thinking I may just need to sit down and give it a go.

Do you use natural products in your home?  Who are some of your favorite companies?

Sofia's new favorite bath bubbles and shampoo were kindly sent to us c/o YesTo baby carrots

  1. Bath time is pure bliss isn't it? I would love to read a natural products post - great idea. Lisa x

  2. I smiled because I too chopped off the back of my hair wanting a change once (I did it myself though, it didn't look terrible because my hair's sorta curly)..

I put henna through my hair for the first time recently, it's definitely different and apparently you need a decent brand (lasconia is what I used)..

and sometimes it is just about the bubbles. x

  3. Oh, baths. Sigh.

As for natural products - I use all Method cleaning product including hand soap and sanitizer. As for baby products, though I've yet to use them, I've invested in some Earth Mama Angel Baby products for things from butt balm for diaper rashes and nipple cream for myself! Also, their shampoo/soap hybrid. They have a ton of choices!

  4. Pregnant massages are SO good. I'm trying to get one once a fortnight for the next 2 months because I feel so much better for it. That and swimming/floating. Yesterday I bobbed around in the ocean for a good half hour and it was the only time my body didn't feel sore. Re: natural stuff... I love Dr Hauschka, and dr bronner x

  5. Yes To is amazing! I use Yes To tomatoes face wash and ADORE IT!

  6. I'm really big on natural products for the home and body. I use all natural cleaning products (some I make myself). And for me I use Verite Spa organics, for the kids Eco Store and Baobaby organics. All New Zealand made and just so beautiful. xo

  7. Yes To make the coolest products! I used to have the Yes to Tomatoes facewash. Yeah I love having something special to put in Casper's bath, I usually put rose oil and baking soda, or a bit of milk and honey!

  8. I never knew that Yes To made baby products, I must check it out! Olivia is SO into bubbles these days.

  9. love, love, love the photo of your spring time flowers.xo

  10. Love the photos of spring in your home! It is very important to use healthy products and so glad you are loving YesTo!

  11. my little one + i bath together every night ! its one of our favorite times together. she plays + i relax . we use california baby + josie maran argan oil. its the best

  12. Bath time bliss! I've been slowly going through our toiletries and replacing them over time with more natural products. I like Gaia and Little Innoscents baby products for little ones.

Easter Weekend

Hello! Happy mid-week to you. This is the roll of photos we shot over our Easter weekend, and oh what a wonderful weekend it was. It was so nice to have family here to visit - even if the weather was cooler than we anticipated! We visited the redwoods in Felton, ate vegetarian burritos, went to the epic shoreside in Montara, and the brewing company in Half Moon Bay. Our hearts are full and our home is feeling quite empty now ;)

As a side note, I've found a renewed love with film. This is a post for another time, but it bears mentioning here! There has been much on my mind re: photography, and hopefully this will be the space I can share that.

For the curious, all the above were shot on a Nikon FM10 with Fuji Superia 400 speed film.

The Long And Short Of It

Hi, friends. How was your weekend? After having non-stop rain for nearly a month, we finally received a short break in the El Niño weather to head to the coast. Even though it's not in our backyard, I still feel like twenty miles to the beach is a good compromise. It really is lovely here and it makes me happy to see the girls so at home in the sea.

This week we are gearing up for Easter and some very special visitors -- my Mama and my sister! It will be the first time Mom has seen our new home or visited the Bay Area, so to say we are excited would be an understatement. We cannot wait. I've even kept it as a surprise from the girls, so I'm sure the look on their faces alone when they see Grammie and their Auntie will be the highlight of the whole trip.

What about you? Any special Easter plans or crafting?

We made some hot crossed buns for the first time last year, and I'm hoping I can bake a little something special this year too. We're going to try this recipe a…

Made It To Another Weekend : The Table

Oh, weekend. We are so happy you're here. It's been a doozy lately. I won't put you through the pitiful details, don't worry-- but I'm just happy to exhale a little bit and am welcoming these days of togetherness with open arms. PS- look at me using unfiltered iPhone photos in a blog post. Who am I? Sometimes I don't even recognize myself. Truly a measure of just how exhausted I really am both mentally and physically ;)

And while I've been seriously down and out in every other area of my life, we've actually been doing some pretty cool things at home. I'm so proud of Sofia and her desire to soak up new information, to learn, and to think of me as a pretty cool "teacher". I'm so in awe of everything she does. But this is all part of the inevitable fact that these kiddos of ours are growing up.
Most days we'll do some kind of worksheet, practicing our letters and cutting skills and getting to color.... other days we'll just spe…
