bump : week 22

I've said it before, but if I could pack up and move my entire family straight into the By The Barkers studio space, I would.

Absolute heaven!

As for our little one, he or she has been giving me strong, swift kicks - especially around bed time.  Waves and ripples dance across my belly as I lay in bed waiting, watching.  I'll admit, it's been difficult for Erick and I since we've decided to keep things a surprise as far as the gender.  We were both so used to the feeling of knowing with Sofia that it's made this pregnancy a completely unique experience.  My intuition keeps swaying back and forth wondering if this little one is a boy or girl, and judging by the way that I look, feel and eat, my best guess is that we have another little lady on the way.

(Though, if you ask Sofia, she's already told us she thinks baby is a "bruh-der")  !!!

Mamas out there, was your intuition right?

Any tell-tale signs or old wives tales that ended up being true?

    1. We've been referring to bub as a "he" lately too. I wonder! (and thank you!)

  2. You look beautiful! The only wives tale that ended up being true for me was the one about the first time your new child shows up as a baby in your dreams. Whatever gender he or she is in your dream is supposed to be true. It was true both times with mine (although my dreams were absolutely bizarre!).

    1. Ha! I've had a few strange dreams so far, but none of baby yet... it will be interesting to see if this is true!

  4. Oh, I love your style so much! I was certain Gus was a girl, as was everyone else besides my husband. My mother's intuition was not so good I guess! Happy twenty-two...you're looking wonderful.

    1. I'm leaning toward side of error - I was convinced Sofia was a boy. ;) It's still fun, though! Life's greatest surprise.

  5. Oh, I love your blog! I've discovered it this evening while blog-hopping. Bookmarking you. :)

Your photography is simply beautiful. Simple & not over-processed. Very real. I've discovered I'm really falling in love with lifestyle blogs like yours lately... :)

P.s. Gorgeous ring by the way! :) I also see you're shooting with Canon. I'm currently a Nikon user and considering switching over. I may have to get some advice from you sometime. :)

  6. HI Kate, lovely to stumble upon your blog and discover we're at about the same stage in pregnancy!
With my first, I could have sworn I was having a girl. I had a boy.
With my second, I wouldn't allow myself to think one or the other because I got it so wrong first time round. And same with my third pregnancy - I keep referring to the bump as a 'he' but I just don't trust my instincts :)
Who knows, but it's so lovely having the surprise at the end isn't it... Viki :)

  7. Hmm...I'm leaning toward a boy! Either way, what's most important is a healthy baby : )

  8. Ahh, yes, that space does look like heaven!! So much photography potential! EEKk, i'm seriously swooning here.
I was sure I was having a girl, right up till the last month, when I started to feel like he was a boy, and I was right. Out came a big boy! But pretty much my entire pregnancy I was convinced I would be dealing with hair bows and tutus! It is kind of fun not knowing, isn't it? There's something quite magical about it.
You look beautiful, by the way. So beautiful!

  9. To those that made their way over from Jodi (Che & Fidel) - thank you, and hello! I'm overwhelmed with the kind responses from everyone. Majorly blushing over here!

  10. I love the grey tone of the shirt you're wearing. sort of blue grey - reminds me of winter, and then I remembered it is winter for you. Looking at these pictures was like a cool breeze, and I'm remembering all the parts of winter I like: tights and boots, crisp fresh colours .. that kind of thing. lovely! x

  11. I know nothing about intuition in pregnancy - three times I was sure I was having a girl and three times... a boy! I think it's a matter of your own hopes and wishes being combined with a great 50% chance of being right. Those who 'just knew' really just had great odds :)

Honestly all the claptrap stories I've head about cravings and morning sickness being a sign of gender - I blow them all out of the water. Three completely different pregnancies in both regards and three beautiful boys. I'm at the end of the third pregnancy and have really stepped back from all the dreaming that I did with my first two (not that I'd expect anyone else to). It's actually nice just to let him be in there and not long to know what he looks like.

Oh yes and Che and Fidel sent me and you have a beautiful blog!

  12. I knew I had a boy from the start, so different than with my daughter (we found out the first time & kept the 2nd a surprise) but I kept trying to convince myself it could be a girl so I wouldn't be totally shocked if I was wrong...

The surprise was so worth the wait! Excited for you! :)

  13. I was so wrong both times with mine. In fact, straight after my second was born it was taken away to be resuscitated and I thought I'd had a second boy. It wasn't for about half an hour until a nurse finally got it through to me that my little man Banjo was actually a little girl Banjo!

  14. Oh, don't ask me! I didn't have a 'feeling' at all - but was convinced I was having a boy as everyone kept telling me so. I remember once saying to myself, the next person who has a guess at the gender will be right - and I was at a cocktail event at K's mum's work when this crazy, exuberant brazilian lady came up and threw her arms around me, rubbing my belly and told me I was having a girl. She was in the 5% of people who said that so I thought no more of that little game until a few weeks after Saskia was born. Something in it? I doubt it! It's all a beautiful guessing game x
ps. Got your email - ever so touched! Will respond soon x

  15. I went from thinking boy early on (but more of a - "How do people really know? I'm just guessing here!") to "Girl, definitely girl" by week 15. So, I just say that I was wrong. But I'm happy either way. The biggest two old wives takes I fit the mold of is that I crave spicy food (Sriracha on everything? Sure!) and I've been told by strangers that the way I carry is "definitely boy." However, at 5'2, I'm unsure I could carry any other way... There's just no space!

You look great and I'm proud of your ability to have turned down the gender knowledge!

    1. I'm waiting to see how my belly looks once it finally starts showing a bit more - I'm wondering if I'll have strangers tell me the same? I love guessing!

  16. I swore I was having a girl the whole 9 months. Nope. Boy. Couldn't be happier though. Such a great surprise!

Love your photos by the way!

  17. Lovely pictures Kate, you look beautiful! So glad things are going so well for you! Before we had our 20 week ultrasound I thought for sure we were having a little boy but then as the day of our ultrasound got closer I had a few dreams that said I was having a girl! and Mike thought we were having a girl too!

    1. Oh and I forgot to add I was carrying Chloe pretty low so a lot of people thought I was having a boy but my belly also just stuck straight out so I had a lot of people say oh ya you're having a girl, I can tell. It was so confusing and a little annoying to hear everyone's comments about my belly.

  18. You look lovely. I love hearing all the wives tales. I'm 35 weeks with my 4th baby, so far I have 3 boys and have been a different shape with all of them..who knows! It sure is fun guessing though..x

  19. Well, I had insane heartburn. I mean.. I would drink water and have heartburn. She had a full head of hair (none of it's fallen out!) and I must say.. sweets! I'm surprise she wasn't BORN as a donut.
