justina and omar: with kennedy

A bit terrified of the rain, I left for this day with both sets of fingers crossed on my drive up to Skokie.

I've known fellow talented photographer friend Justina Olenick for more years than I can even count. I've talked about her numerous times on this blog, you may remember her maternity session or the wedding we shot together. Luckily for all of us, we escaped the day with nothing more than a mere sprinkle in the early morning and were left with a beautifully perfect, overcast sky for our time together.

I'm always more nervous taking photos of other photographers, something about this fear that I have less room for error, and they're paying attention and silly things like that, but what I've come to realize is that it is much easier to pose and direct a photographer's family because they simply already know what looks good.  So there.  It's a difficult yet forgiving experience and I couldn't be happier with the way things turned out for Justina.

The location certainly helps accentuate the natural beauty of this family-- Justina took us all to the Chicago Botanical Gardens, which surprisingly Erick, Sofia and I haven't had the opportunity to visit yet.  It definitely seems that autumn is one of the most beautiful times to go.  So many gorgeous, living, blooming things everywhere... it's a noble feat for those heroes of the fall; bursting with color and pride as they valiantly nourish the last of their roots before winter.  Always in awe of the autumn time.

Easter Weekend

Hello! Happy mid-week to you. This is the roll of photos we shot over our Easter weekend, and oh what a wonderful weekend it was. It was so nice to have family here to visit - even if the weather was cooler than we anticipated! We visited the redwoods in Felton, ate vegetarian burritos, went to the epic shoreside in Montara, and the brewing company in Half Moon Bay. Our hearts are full and our home is feeling quite empty now ;)

As a side note, I've found a renewed love with film. This is a post for another time, but it bears mentioning here! There has been much on my mind re: photography, and hopefully this will be the space I can share that.

For the curious, all the above were shot on a Nikon FM10 with Fuji Superia 400 speed film.

The Long And Short Of It

Hi, friends. How was your weekend? After having non-stop rain for nearly a month, we finally received a short break in the El Niño weather to head to the coast. Even though it's not in our backyard, I still feel like twenty miles to the beach is a good compromise. It really is lovely here and it makes me happy to see the girls so at home in the sea.

This week we are gearing up for Easter and some very special visitors -- my Mama and my sister! It will be the first time Mom has seen our new home or visited the Bay Area, so to say we are excited would be an understatement. We cannot wait. I've even kept it as a surprise from the girls, so I'm sure the look on their faces alone when they see Grammie and their Auntie will be the highlight of the whole trip.

What about you? Any special Easter plans or crafting?

We made some hot crossed buns for the first time last year, and I'm hoping I can bake a little something special this year too. We're going to try this recipe a…

(silly photo of me saying, "whaaat?"  by the husband)

Hi friends. I wanted to take a minute to catch up together and fill you in on a few new things! To anyone new to our space, thank you for visiting and I'm glad you're here. You may have noticed the look around the blog has been much simpler and clean. It's something I'm trying to do not only in just the blog, but with my life itself... a bit of a spring-cleaning, if you will. My Facebook feed filled with "friends" I haven't talked to in ages, a twitter name that no one could pronounce or understand, blog columns and categories I couldn't keep up with, even pressure to post when I know I should just be enjoying my time with my family. The list is seeming never-ending for a lot of us out there, and I just wanted to be honest and say that I too have gotten "stuck" one time or another, and here's a few things I did to streamline my way out of it:

• Keep as many things cons…
